Gridded Clouds

Dress - Very J | Shoes - Tevas (comfort, man) | Cami - American Eagle | Jacket - Goodwill | Tourmaline Bracelet - gift | Necklace - thrifted | Purse -Fossil | Lips- e.l.f.'s "cherry tart"

I threw on a lightweight summer dress for a meeting, movie at the local theatre downtown, and an art opening. Afterwards, we even hit up the local duck pond/ play ground. Versatility is key!

The chiffon material of this dress was light enough to keep me from sweating too much in the 100 degree heat index, but thick enough to keep me warm in the cold, air-conditioned theatre. (I get cold frustratingly easily!) My arms got a bit chilly, however, but that's where this cozy jacket came in! The warm colors in the jacket were a nice offset to the cloudy baby blues and soft eggshell whites of the dress. The structured grid (It's not quite plaid) pattern, although muted, was also nice, as most of the outfit was soft and flowy. It worked with the angles of the sandal straps as well.

The main problem I encountered with this outfit was how sheer the dress was! Throwing on a cami underneath was a given, but even the skirt part of the dress is see-through. I actually don't own a slip, so I had to improvise. I snipped the elastic built-in bra out of another cream cami and wore it as a skirt, tucking the straps under the blue waistband of the dress so they wouldn't create lumps. I hate built-in bras anyway, so it was fun! C:

I hope everyone is doing well!
The movie we saw was called "Kings of Summer." I highly recommend it! The plot is wonderful and I loved the messiness of the interactions between the characters, especially Joe and Patrick. Not to mention Joe's relationship with his father! The witty banter was throttling. Absolutely spot-on with the tempo, in my opinion. And Bellaggio! What a character. I feel like my friends view me a little like Bellaggio sometimes. It's hard for me to find a comedy that really appeals to my odd sense of humor, but this movie definitely won me over and had me cackling.

Anyway.

Statement Neckline

(dress- Urban Outfitters, heels- Zara, necklace- Meadows Museum of Art gift shop, lip color- L'Oreal Color Caresse Lip Stain)
accessorizing like nobody's business
Hello all!

I wore this outfit a while back to go (be late) to a student government meeting and to meet up with some friends. Sorry, there's not a quality full outfit shot, but I still wanted to post it because I was mighty proud to have made a regular type of outfit into more of a statement. Dresses are kind of my uniform in the summer since they are so easy to put on and go about your day. But I like trying to make it my own and creating another dimension to the look. Plus I rediscovered my collection of buttons, so the obvious course of action is TO WEAR ALL OF THEM AT ONCE. And so I did.

Also, I'm pretty stoked about the heels from Zara! I've been seeing Zara shoes around the fashion blog world so much and I really dig them in general. Not the biggest heel person here, but I'm definitely gonna get my money's worth. They're pretty and summery and feminine and I'm looking forward to incorporating them in my wardrobe ^.^ yay shoes~

Flower Children - A Study in Purple

Hello, my wee petunias! I do hope all is well with ye lately!

Personally, I've been a bit inundated by sheer...LIFE.

on the way to film at 6:00 am (bagsbagsbags)
A nice montage of art academy: top left - the studio | top right- a friend and me | bottom left - a painting I did of a clay study | bottom right - filming the stop motion film

Last week I had the most amazing opportunity to study at the Meadows Academy for Young Artists on SMU campus in Dallas, Texas. I grew so much as an artist and was surrounded by the nicest, most convivial, helpful, and inspiring people, including a sculptor that just graduated from grad school there and an adjunct professor. I learned more that week than I have all summer! (Take that, summer reading! Hyah! {but really...I should probably do that...}) Exploring the DMA and the Nasher was also quite the experience. Ancient Greek sculpture loaned from the British National Museum and a live outdoor (free!) performance by Griffin House, a band I had previously never heard of, were the highlights of my adventuring. He was so kind and generous! Man, I just love people who remind me that people are loveable. C;

I did quite miss seeing dear Brooklyn's show, though. She's a very good friend of mine and if you haven't read Sarah's post about it, then I suggest you go forth and allow your eyes to absorb the glory, my friend! It shan't be disappointing.

Tonight we went out to a lovely hibachi dinner. I decided to play with shades of purple. I wish the light had caught the iridescence in the purple pants as well! Should have taken some shots with the shirt tucked in, too. The next outfit-based post will definitely have pictures taken specifically for the post. C: What better way to complement the silk shirt with a textured gold bomber? Then halfway through the dinner I realized I probably looked like an LSU fanatic. Darn you Louisianaaaaa. *shakes fist* p.s. if you look closely you can see my kitty.
A few photos of us reveling in height differences. I don't think I'll ever grow taller, but I'm content to forever remain a hobbit. top- gift | bottoms - The Spotted Zebra | jacket - gift | shoes - Tevas (comfort, baby)
On me : headband - Delia's | dress - Target | cicada necklace - local thrift | lips - cherry chapstick

This week, a very old friend of mine is staying with me, so we've been goofing around Shreveport. Many high school age whiners around here like to complain about how there isn't anything to doooo hereeee, but I'd like to explain to you that that is complete cow patties! I love my quirky, nasty, irrationally artsy-ish city and I certainly find so many ways to keep myself busy that I can hardly force myself to have a day in.

~being dorks~
 I've been trying out some new makeup looks lately. I picked up a few new mascaras in Dallas so I'll make a post about them soon!

Until next time- Emmaline c:

p.s. yes.... the title is a BBC Sherlock reference. Good job, proud of you c;

HOT PINK HUBRIS - Brooklyn White Show!

(The HOT PINK accents to the weather-inappropriate look.)
(Three pictures to the right are not mine. Top and bottom are copped from FB, but I wanted to show a real pic of her performing and such! Top right- credit to Claire Matthews. Middle right- Brooklyn's cover art to her single "HOT PINK HUBRIS." Bottom right- credit to Brooklyn White.)

(Velvet top- gift, skirt- Target, shoes- gift, necklace- Urban Outfitters, sunglasses- Urban Outfitters, headband- ModCloth, lipstick- Revlon "Cherries in the Snow")

On Friday, I went to a show by a friend of mine. She's a rapper named Brooklyn White, and she is going places. It was a great time and I really loved seeing her perform live! Her stage presence and vibe is awesome; I really appreciated the atmosphere she created- bringing out candles, having colorful t-shirts and flower crowns for sale, etc. (I got my hands on that one t-shirt pictured above AW YEAH pretty excited about that)

One of my favorite songs of hers is "HOT PINK HUBRIS" so I tried to accent my outfit with punches of hot pink through my accessories. I wanted bold lipstick to really pop, so I made my best attempts at a winged cat eye. I'm just beginning to explore eyeliner, but my mom said she liked it! ^.^

Check out Brooklyn's soundcloud here! "HOT PINK HUBRIS", "1213 BC", "BADA$$ BABES" are her latest songs out and they have the best lines. I want so many t-shirts with "got that thang that make them boys say dang" and "shows that I ain't scared of blood" on it. I want to wake up, look out the window, and start my day with a skywriting of "what's good with that dick." There's so many more, it's fantastic.

Flight of the Camcords

(top: gift from friend; skirt: Cotton On; bandeau: Aerie; necklace: High Chaparral; shoes: Jeffrey Campbell)

Just an outfit post! I've been figuring out the good ole family camera and rickety tripod, and here I am with progress! Plus I was able to MacGyver myself a lighting set up something ridiculous.

I wish I could come up with a cutesy name for this outfit/post that's less of a stretch, but my day was mostly listening to FotC while I tried to find the timer on the camera. And I'm super excited about this shirt not gonna lie. A good friend had a lot of clothes she needed to get rid of and I got my hands on this gem. So big thanks to Staveley ^.^
