So... It's prom season. SENIOR prom, for Emma and me. And with online shopping being my default action, I couldn't help but do a little (a lot) of browser shopping. So this post is to just organize my thoughts just for record.

Personally, I started out excited to try a long dress - something I haven't done before - but I just doesn't work for me. There's something uncomfortable about a traditional long gown for me (especially strapless, I mean, it is a dance. Ya gotta be able to dance.)

My former Prom-spiration ideas were as follows:
| left dress - ASOS | earrings - Kastor & Pollux // right dress - UO | armlets - Threadsence |
But they were AXED, as I found myself remembering that low necklines/strapless make me feel DISCOMFORT. Also I cringe even thinking to hem them to fix the ever-long length (I am lazy to no end.) In conclusion: Pretty, BUT NO DICE.

So taking from these esoteric revelations, I'm trying to go for a shorter dress!
These are resulting ~~prom-moods~~:
*SWEET- this is the option I'm leaning most towards^.^ I enjoy the idea of pairing it with dainty accessories.
*QUIRKY- I thought this one was super fun and bubbly, especially with the mainly monochromatic theme with pops of coral.
*GLAM- I love the bold color and sequins in the casual silhouette of a t-shirt dress and I think the pairing of a snakeskin pattern gives it another dimension but doesn't make it too busy.
*VINTAGE- I don't know why I put this is. I mean I LOVE this dress. But it's out of stock. And I'm left wistfully reloading the page like a stalker.

Hope everyone else is having a fun prom season! Are you ready yet?

SPRING INSPIRATION 2K14

COLOR PALETTE: PASTELS

MAKEUP: PEACHY & FRESH

TEXTURE: PATENT & LACE+FLUFF

MORE PATENT STUFF BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MUCH I LIKE IT: IT'S LIKE THE FUTURE

This isn't any kind of "fashion forecast" - just things that are inspiring me personally! And my ideal spring look comprising of the following: [PEACHY, GLOWY MAKEUP] + [PASTELS] + [WEIRD TEXTURES] + [SIMPLE/MINIMAL SILHOUETTES]

I think my main ideal piece I'd want to add to my wardrobe would be something patent leather/PVC, but in a bright, innocent color (so less dominatrix, more Laffy Taffy wrapper). It's funky and futuristic, like the 21th century in the eyes of those in the 60's.

Skirts I've had my eye on: left - Missguided | center - ASOS | right - Topshop

This is my scheme. These are my plans.
Any new looks you're trying out this season?

Winter Makeup Uniform: Smokey Eyes / Dark Lips

~Winter Layering~
& details
my dad's old leather jacket ^.^
walkin' through the snow~

So I am aware that we are well into March, almost April to be honest, and spring is upon us indeed. Like, it's literally spring as of last week. But let's take a moment to document this past winter's greatest hits.

Winter is personally a tough season for me being a wimp to cold temperatures and getting generally down in demeanor, but I MADE IT - all while getting into a good outfit grind. The run-down for my winter uniform is basically pants + collared button down + sweater. (BONUS for the colder days + my dad's old leather bomber jacket!)

I mixed the uniform up with details (in pattern and texture), accessories, and a variety of black leather shoes. With the outfit taking more masculine notes, I felt it only appropriate to vamp it up with makeup - smokey eyes (shout out to smudged eyeliner) and dark lips - only occasionally worn together. ;)

We usually never get snow in Shreveport (like it's rare in the south, but it's usually impossible in Shreveport. Places further down south get more snow than us.) But in February, we actually had a snow day in our crazy city! (and a mere 3 days later it hit 70 degrees, go figure.)

Now that I've got that out of my system, LET US MOVE FORTH, SPRING-WARD HO!

Quick Nail Update - Scotch Tape Method (c/o The Dainty Squid)

Zoya Polish - Tracie
UO Polish - Spandex (LE school spirit themed polishes)
So... Let us quickly skip the fact it was been a month since posting and enjoy a quick nail update!

I haven't been very inspired with nails until recently when I decided to try the "Scotch Tape Method" form nail blogging goddess Kaylah from The Dainty Squid. (Check her out! I've been an avid reader of hers for a while. She doesn't just blog about nails - she also does fashion, photography, and life stuff! She very distinct tastes and style and a sick nail game.)

I had been wanting to use these two polishes somehow, but I didn't care for the colors on their own. Combining the two in a graphic design made them perfectly mingle to my taste. ^.^ I only used the actual scotch tape on four of my ten fingers, and they make everything more striking with the clean cut lines (I do not have the finesse to freehand that well!)

If you have the time, try it out! It makes it super simple to make a complicated looking pattern, and remember that top coat is your friend!

*the classic Emma laugh*
"I am beautiful…in every single way… words can't bring me-ee down.."

We ended up not thrifting or dress shopping, but we hit up Ulta, swatching it up like a big-shot persons-who-understand-makeups and going home with happy little hauls!

I capitulate- Sarah wins this round with her superior swatch-age.

We went to Ulta.

Hope you enjoy these OOTDs from our little D2D Day! I tried to muster up an outfit optimal for oreoball-making, potential shopping, and involving knee socks (because I like them). As I tried to reach a balance of being easy clean and easy to slip in and out of during shopping and being comfortable, I ended up wearing this: my favorite skirt I got from a vendor at our city's biannual Texas Street Maker's Fair (vendor: Come & See), my favorite cashmere sweater I got from Goodwill last year (not that easy to clean but so comfy it overrides), a pair of trusty over-the-knee Target socks in gray, my scary spiked shoes, and my Goodwill thrifted hat.

After spending the past month convalescing from having my wisdom teeth out ("Are the boobies extinct?!") aka wondering when my jaw will look perfectly normal again, I have taken to laying around and, thus, forgetting what "real people" wear "outside." After being forced to then switch tracks and dress for college interviews, my "chic" side has been running pretty dry for the time being. I've been opting for comfort and a versatile attire that will allow me to brave this ridiculously capricious Louisiana weather. I felt as if the happy print on the skirt would make up for my more somber soul. I've really been into dousing myself in black textiles lately. Though! I feel myself emerging from the cocoon, just in time for….

(WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, THE MEAT OF THIS POST…)

D2D has been having a dry spell lately... Dashes of blog posts here and there, and ...oh yeah, there's a youtube channel?

But friends, now is the time for change! Firstly I'd personally like to chalk things up to cold-weathered malaise, but let it be known, last weekend we braved the dreary rainy weather to fulfill some ~blogger~ plans. ANNNDD PLAN WE DID. We've got big plans in store for the place so LOOK FORWARD TO CONTENT. And now, this is BASICALLY an E-CONTRACT. AND THIS POST SHOULD HOLD US ACCOUNTABLE TO OUR WORD. So again, GET READY INTERNET~*~~

Jewel Tones and Gumballs

I felt like wearing jewel tones in their fullest array a few days ago. Though I wasn't wearing makeup (besides mascara) I felt pretty fancy in a dignified sort of way. Rich colors will do that to you, I think.

Jacket : Goodwill | Shirt : Old Navy | Shorts : MM Couture | Tights : Target

I was really happy to find a sophisticated but incredibly comfortable outfit after a long week.

I have a bad habit of collecting things that like to rot.

Balance Beam Dork. It's the new look, kiddos.
Not really I just wanted to show how comfy and dynamic this outfit was. Or maybe I just felt the impulse...

( Check out my ~Salami Hands~ )
nails : Revlon's "Raven Red" | necklace : American Eagle

For some reason I'm really in love with how these turned out. Probably because of the swoopy foliage + swoopy hair and the nice caramelly hues. {These are technical photography terms.}

Oxfords: Born
I'm in l o v e with these babies. Although, they are a bit easy to smudge, as this picture clearly shows. I was tromping around in a creek bed! No worries, it wiped right off.
I love the unexpected flash of cream and white they give my feet. It makes one feel nimbler, in a way.

Gumballs are a very underrated accessory piece.

I'm looking a bit sasquatch-y here, if I do say so myself.

I hope you're taking every opportunity to explore the outside world with the gradual return of daylight and above-freezing temperatures. (At least that's what began to occur in fickle Louisiana…)

Prepped and Ready to Go

You guys. This is quite possibly the best picture that I've ever taken. Like if I had a portfolio of photography, this would be the only thing in it. Then everyone would think I'm the biggest narcissist, and like ok sure, fair enough, but tbh I'm just terrible at taking photos. This is the only picture I've been proud of taking. End self-congratulatory praise-rant.

now for the ~deets~:

*~Close up details~*

It's the dead of winter, but the weather still crazy in Shreveport. This was a lovely 70 degree day when I felt particularly layer-y.

I started with a classic silhouette with my burgundy a-line skirt and b&w striped shirt, so I could really feature my new over-the-knee socks with a sheer panel which gave a slightly sporty vibe. I love the look of a boy's prep school from the blazer, and I felt like the hoodie enhanced it to a "boarding school sport team" feel. I feel like I should be playing...rugby or lacrosse or... polo. Or something, I don't know what rich white boys do in their spare time, probably hire a stylist to look like a mini-senator. Tangent aside, I felt like (my dad had) a million bucks. (OK last rich kid joke!)

Also I feel slightly hypocritical segueing that into talking about my shoes. They're called the Melinas by Jeffery Campbell and they weren't cheap, but after scheming on them since circa last September (inspiration spawning from my Fall'13 Lust List), I feel like they've been a long overdue wardrobe addition. I could go on and on (and TRUST, I PLAN ON DOING SO), so I'll save it for a new post dedicated to them.
